Strong partnerships are fundamental to how regional and unitary councils deliver services for Aotearoa New Zealand. Across the motu, councils work collectively with community groups, iwi, hapū, rural sectors, businesses, researchers, central government and others to address complex local challenges. We prioritise partnerships because it is local people and communities who know their backyard best.

Partnerships span all council workstreams, including climate adaptation, natural hazard resilience, resource management, biodiversity and biosecurity, and regional transport. Operating at regional scales, councils champion and facilitate issues that cross catchment, urban-rural, hapū, iwi, ecosystem and district boundaries. We represent our partners' interests, reduce duplication, and improve the flow of resources, information and funding. These partnerships are key to effective, long-term and meaningful outcomes for the environment, our communities and economy.

To reflect the value of our partners, we are capturing case studies from across the motu on this page, starting with kaupapa Māori. Check back soon for more!

With shared commitment, we can weather the storms ahead and build a stronger, more adaptable nation.
